Born and raised in North Jersey, Carla started music at a young age. She played any instrument she was allowed to bring home from school, the violin, cello, clarinet, flute & trumpet. Carla settled into the French Horn and played through out her high school years. Seventeen Magazine ranked her among the top 10 across the country in their Concerto Competition and the NJ All State Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and NJ Regional Band were achievements that would set the pace for years to come.
Carla attended the Berklee College of Music for a few years and then moved over to the New England Conservatory of Music to study composition with jazz great George Russell and contemporary composer William Thomas McKinley. It was at the New England Conservatory of Music that Carla was elected as a member into the Pi Kappa Lambda Society. Filling up her library with original Big Band scores, orchestral pieces, string quartets and a Degree in Music, made her transition to California easy. The University of Southern California had gladly accepted her in their Master's of Music program but the LA scene was too much and Carla succumbed to the call of Rock N Roll.
It was in California that Earthwurm was born. A progressive rock trio that started in the clubs of LA and moved to NYC via Boston. Carla honed her skills as a guitarist and a lead singer and called upon friends Sheryl Bailey and Allison Miller to fill out her band. Two independently released CD's, "Sex & Anxiety" & "Blank The Same", a song she wrote on a compilation called "Octaves Beyond Silence" featuring Ani DiFranco, Sarah Mclachlan & The Indigo Girls and loads of touring and charting on the CMJ's in the late 90's was all she could take!! Earthwurm was put to bed. An out of the blue phone call landed her an audition with the off-broadway sensation The Blue Man Group. Carla became the first female band member of the NYC show, playing the Chappman Stick. She stayed with the show for 3 years.
Microtonal music is a place that she ventured as well. In 1999, Evolution for Electric Guitar and Orchestra, a piece written by Jon Catler & conducted by Joel Thome was recorded. Carla played just intonated guitar on this recording with guidance from Jon Catler and lent her voice along with Meredith Borden and Paul Matsumoto. This piece was also recorded on Mantra TV the same year.
In 2002 Carla found her self on stage with singer/ songwriter Danny Vaughn, of Tyketto. As a background singer for "Vaughn", Carla toured through Europe and had the opportunity to play large outdoor festivals in Belgium. Vaughn also made its way through England hitting all the big name "rock" clubs.
Today you can find Carla singing with a group named, The Party Dolls and as a sub for many corporate agencies in the Tri-State area. Carla continues to teach piano to children.
